Medication Instructions

Please review this information on what medications you can and cannot take before any procedure at Berks Urologic Surgery Center.

Anticoagulants or “blood thinners”

  • Such as: Aggrenox, Plavix, Effient, Coumadin, Warfarin, Jantoven, Pradaxa, Pletal, Lovenox, Heparin, Ticlid, Persantine, Trental, Brilinta, Xarelto, Eliquis, Savaysa.
  • Please notify your doctor or a member of his staff before stopping these medications.
  • We will consult the prescribing physician for permission to stop.
  • We will call you with further instructions.

Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Agents (NSAIDS)

  • Such as: Advil, Anaprox, Aleve, Azulfidine, Celebrex, Celecoxib, Daypro, Diclofenac, Diflunisal, Etodolac, Feldene, Fenoprofen, Ibuprofen, Indocin, Indomethacin, Ketoprofen, Ketoralac, Meloxicam, Mobic, Motrin, Nabumetone, Naprosyn, Naproxen, Oxaprozin, Piroxicam, Salsalate, Sulfasalazine, Sulfazine, Sulindac, Voltaren.
  • Stop 7 days prior to your procedure.

Supplements

  • Such as: Multivitamin, Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Ginko, Ginseng, Garlic, Glucosamine, Onion, Lovaza, EPA, DHEA, CoQ10, Omega3, Cinnamon, Turmeric, Red Yeast Rice,
  • Stop 7 days prior to your procedure.
  • Saw Palmetto and Arnica must be stopped 14 days prior to your surgery.

Aspirin or aspirin containing drugs

  • Such as: Ecotrin, Excedrin, Bufferin, Enteric coated aspirin, St. Joseph’s aspirin, Lortab ASA, Florinal, Ascriptin, Percodan.
  • MAY NEED to be stopped 7 days prior to procedure. Someone for our office will provide you with instructions specific to you.
  • Please contact our office with any further questions.

You MAY TAKE acetaminophen or acetaminophen containing medications.

  • Such as: Tylenol, Tylenol with Codeine, Percocet, oxycodone/acetaminophen, hydrocodone/acetaminophen, Tramadol, Vicodin, Diluadid, Duragesic, Morphine, Codeine, MS Contin, Darvocet, Hydromorphone.

If you are unsure if a medication you are taking has blood thinning qualities, please ask your doctor or call the office at 610-372-8995.

For your safety, it is important to follow these instructions. Your procedure may need to be rescheduled if these instructions are not followed. Thank you.
